Petition to support of the PSPO and acoustic cameras
Mickleham Parish Council
We are not opposed to motorbikes, however residents, visitors, and nature deserve to enjoy this landscape without being overwhelmed by excessive engine noise that serves no public benefit. It's not about banning motorbikes, it's about encouraging respectful use that aligns with the area's purpose and values, and it is not just our village that is fed up.The argument that bikers have used these roads since before the 1960s doesn't mean that the issue shouldn't be addressed today. Back then, there was less understanding of noise pollution’s health and environmental impacts, and less powerful engines. Times have changed, the population has grown, expectations around environmental protection have evolved, and technology now allows for quieter bikes. The petition to Mole Valley District Council (link attached) is a request for a Public Space Protection Order from Givons Grove to Denbies Roundabouts, including London Road through Mickleham, with a view to being able to extend the PSPO to other roads in Mole Valley if the trial is successful. We are also requesting a three-month trial with an acoustic camera installed on a post in Old London Road near the Burford Bridge Round with further PSPOs and permanent installations of acoustic cameras across Mole Valley if the trial proves successful. It requires 800 signatures in support of the PSPO and acoustic cameras (which we think MVDC may have funding for). We hope that many will sign it and also forward it to other family and friends who live in the Mole Valley area or use the area for quiet recreational purposes. We reiterate that this is about reducing noise, not about banning bikers.Thank you for your attention and please get signing.
